hunger,cholera threaten villagers in Zimbabwe

Nestled in the Zambezi valley, close to Zimbabwe's northeastern border with Mozambique, Mbire District looks lush and fertile. But appearances can be deceptive. Hunger and desperation stalk the region; and the first cases of cholera have begun appearing. If that wasnt enough, villagers are battling to protect their crops from wild elephants.

The international aid agency, Oxfam, is working in the area; distributing food supplies during the lean "hunger months" from November until April; and carrying out health and hygiene promotion work, to prevent the cholera epidemic, which has claimed nearly 4,000 lives in the country, from spreading further.
